2022.01.18 17:21 Gully29 Is it normal?

I've been dating this boy for over an year now and I've started to feel like he's not as interested in me as he used to be meanwhile I've been falling deeper. It's pretty serious for me. Anyway, what my problem is that I get extremely lonely, sad, feel like crying and just restless a lot of times when he's out with his friends drinking and stuff. I feel like he doesn't want to chill or go out with me or maybe it's not as much fun with me?? Is what I'm feeling normal? Or am I some psychotic gf who can't see his bf having fun when she isn't having fun herself?

Do you set aside a certain percentage of your after expense money to save up for your next nice watch? I was thinking about this and it would be a nice way to not go overboard and buy all the nice watches that catch your eye, but instead force you to pace yourself.

2022.01.18 17:21 copperseas Nail polish suggestions (Vegan, ethical, sustainable if possible)

I'm new to nail care, I have been stealing my Mum's Rimmel London 'Stronger Nail' polish. I would like to buy my own polish and polish remover but I'm unsure on what brand to go for. I'd like both to be affordable but good quality. I'm looking for something gentle as I have very sensitive skin especially on my hands, they are prone to dermatitis so I'm very concerned about buying a strong polish remover. I'd also like the product to be vegan, ethical and sustainable if possible (or at least vegan and ethical). A good selection of natural/ neutral colours is a must too! Thanks

2022.01.18 17:21 Content_Age_2448 Weather of my mind

When I'm calm, I feel like I'm floating,
drifting against the river or an ocean.
My mind gets busy and I overthink.
It keeps me moving. Keeps me busy. Then I blink.
I have days where I feel cold inside.
Icebergs stand still in my criminal mind.
Hacking away at rocks in my path.
They're too big and they break apart my axe.
Having to make another out of flowers and thorns.
Makes the work harder and I'm constantly worn.
I search for the energy through lightening and thunder.
Dark clouds of memories that I bury myself under.
I reach for the sun but it burns my hands.
I would move away but I'm stuck in the sand.
I'm a prisoner to the weather inside of my brain.
My seasons fight one another while I'm held by the chains.
The rain pours over me and tries to clear the tarnished side of my life.
But the heat keeps it dry, leaving it covered in grime.
The snow comforts my bad thoughts with its icy form.
Its frozen blanket surrounds me, but it leaves me too warm.
The lightening bolts crash against the walls of my hate.
Crumbling the brick and turning it to paste.
My feet feel cold in the slimy sludge.
It grips onto me tight and doesnt let me budge.
I shout at the thunder to take me down.
To let me float away in the rain and drown.
Drifting against the river or an ocean,
then I'm calm and I feel like I'm floating.

2022.01.18 17:21 12nb34 Dec 31, 2021. We have directed research labs to stop using the term ‘Probable Omicron’ and keep these finer points for academic discussion and internal researches only,” a senior ICMR official told TOI.

There are two mapping software — Pangolin and Scorpio — that assign or fix lineages of the SARS-CoV-2 genomes. This approach is fast and can assign large numbers of SARS-CoV-2 genomes in a relatively short span of time. “Pangolin system currently assigns the outlier (distinctive) lineage as B.1.1.529 or Omicron, but Scorpio system gives the additional label ‘Probable Omicron’ because the outlier lineage is missing many of the original pre-defined lists of mutations. Hence, the confusion.
We have directed research labs to stop using the term ‘Probable Omicron’ and keep these finer points for academic discussion and internal researches only,” a senior ICMR official told TOI.
The virologists have also clarified that two siblings (sub-lineages) of the original Omicron strain (B.1.1.529) are also in circulation in Maharashtra and the rest of the country. “Patients infected with any of the two sub-lineages (BA.1 and BA.2) are also the confirmed cases of Omicron,” the virologist said. A sub-lineage is not a new variant, scientists have clarified.

2022.01.18 17:21 Porkadi110 "Rhythm and Blues": The History Behind One of the Most Vague and Diverse "Genres" in Pop Music

Few terms in the history of popular music are as amorphous as the term “Rhythm and Blues,” or “R&B” for short. Since its inception the term has been used to define everyone from Louis Jordan, to the Rolling Stones, to Drake, and yet few people in the general public actually question the true meaning of the term, if it even has one at this point. Some may tell you that “Rhythm and Blues” used to have a clearer meaning and that the truth behind the term has simply become corrupted over time through overuse and saturation. I’m here to claim, however, that this is not the case and that the overly general nature of “Rhythm and Blues” as a category is an inherent aspect of the term itself. To understand this, let’s take a step back into the origins of the term itself.
The Beginning of R&B
73 years ago, starting with their June 25th issue, Billboard Magazine officially changed the name of their “Race Records” chart to the “Rhythm & Blues” chart. This was not Billboard starting a change so much as it was them reacting to one. This was not the first time the term had been used in the magazine and the term “Rhythm & Blues” (and its variations) had been steadily growing in popularity following the end of World War II. Still, this did mark a major turning point in the mainstream usage of the term, and other magazines and media outlets, such as Cashbox Magazine, would quickly adopt the new term. At this point it’s important to note what the name “Rhythm & Blues” was and wasn’t during this period. The term was largely a general marketing term meant to replace the equally general term of “Race Music,” which was broadly applied to the vast majority of black music artists in America. “R&B” was NOT imagined as referring to a specific message or a collection of specific musical characteristics in the way terms like “Trap,” “Math Rock,” or “Speed Metal” might be used today. It was a broad term, and black artists who were around when it was first being used largely acknowledged it as such. BB King illustrated this perfectly in a 1978 interview where he said:

I remember that Dinah Washington was considered R&B or ‘race’ but Dinah sang anything that anybody else sang. She just sang it her own way. She was doing all of the popular tunes of the late forties and early fifties. […] I remember Dinah covering “Three Coins in a Fountain.” Mercury Records was using her to sell records to black record buyers. But when she did these pop tunes in her way, they were classed as rhythm and blues.
In this same interview BB was asked whether or not his own music was “Blues” or “Rhythm & Blues” and he dismissed any “conflict” between the two terms stating:
it was all rhythm and blues, it was blues and it had rhythm.
Any notion of “R&B” being a more specific term/genre/style than this comes from later periods in which the term was reframed in contrast to other popular styles at the time, namely “Rock” music.
The R&B vs R&R Debate
Going forward into the 1950s a new term started to quickly gain prominence across America and abroad; the famous “Rock and Roll.” Like “R&B” the history and original meaning of this term is also popularly misunderstood. Prior to the mid-1950s the term “Rock and Roll” was largely used as a slang term with a double meaning that could refer to both dancing/partying or sex depending on the context. The term did start to take on a musical connotation in the 1940s to describe upbeat black music, but it mostly remained an esoteric industry term that was only used by music journalists and some disc jockeys.
This all changed when one disc jockey in Cleveland named Alan Freed started to use the term to describe the R&B music he played on his radio show. This was partly due to him having to rebrand his radio show due to the legal trouble he got in from using the name “Moondog” which he took from Louis Thomas Hardin. Freed was not the first person to come up with the term “Rock and Roll,” nor was he the first to use it in the manner that he did. By his own admission the idea was more Leo Mintz’s than his own. That being said, like with Billboard’s adoption of “Rhythm and Blues,” Alan Freed was largely responsible for introducing the term to the wider American public. Because of this the term “Rock and Roll” first starts to see wide mainstream use in the beginning of 1955. All of this is stuff that most rock aficionados more or less know, but what doesn’t get touched upon as much is what exactly the term “Rock and Roll” meant to people at that time and throughout the rest of the decade.
These days most people, even lay folks, will have a general idea of there being a stylistic distinction between “Rock and Roll,” and “Rhythm and Blues,” and while that is certainly their right, it’s also fairly anachronistic. Circa 1955 the term “Rock and Roll” had a very different connotation for most people in America than the average Joe today might think. This can be clearly observed in many sources, but one of the most succinct examples comes from August 27th issue of Cashbox Magazine from 1955. The issue starts with a short blurb titled “Rock ‘N Roll Carries On” that you can read for yourself here if you’d like. What makes it useful for the purposes of this post however is that the article lists 10 “Rock and Roll” songs that were popular at the time of the issue and thus by listening to these songs we can get a glimpse of what “Rock and Roll Music” was truly like for the people of the time. I have created a Youtube playlist of the songs in question that you can listen to here. In there you will certainly hear some songs with which you are familiar, but you’ll also hear some songs that almost definitely will not meet your personal criteria for “Rock and Roll” music.
I bring all this up to drive home the point that these terms “Rock and Roll” and “Rhythm and Blues” were used far more generally at their inceptions than how they are understood today, and it is this general usage that has caused the continual confusion of their meanings and uses over the decades. For a great number of people in America “R&B” and “R&R” remained closely related if not synonymous in certain contexts up until the mid-1960s and the British Invasion, which helped to usher in a paradigm shift.
The Rise of “Rock Music” and the Re-Imagining of “R&B”
Over the latter half of the 1960s, the terms “Rock and Roll” and “Rhythm and Blues” started to see a decline in favor of a new pair: “Rock” and “Soul.” Unlike their predecessors however, a much clearer distinction was perceived between these two terms. By 1970 gone were the days where artists like Little Richard, Chuck Berry, and yes even Ray Charles were interchangeably referred to as both “R&B” and “Rock & Roll” in the media. There was now a fairly clear-cut line, in the eyes of America, between “Rock Music” which was white, and “Soul Music” which was black. This is a development that had a resounding effect that is by and large still felt to this very day. In fact, this development was so significant, that it led a massive reframing of what the terms “Rock and Roll” and “Rhythm and Blues” had even meant in the first place back in the 1950s. It is this reframing that exemplifies the root of “Rhythm & Blues” somewhat confused identity. The truth is that nothing in life ever stays the same, and just as music changes and evolves, so too does the meaning of the terminology people use to describe it. Despite that though, some things change more easily than others, and it shouldn’t be difficult to see why a term born with as broad a meaning as “R&B’s” would prove so susceptible to change over the decades.
TL;DR: “Rhythm and Blues” is a broad and stylistically inconsistent term because it has always been broad and inconsistent since its very inception.
